The Heat Problem (It's Big)
This is the single biggest issue with flexible panels. When glued directly to your roof with no air gap, they get extremely hot in summer:

When Flexible Panels DO Make Sense
There are a few specific situations where flexible panels are genuinely the best choice:
✓ Curved Roofs
High-top conversions or vans with significant roof curve where rigid panels can't mount flat. In this case, premium ETFE flexible panels are your only option.
✓ Weight-Critical Builds
Older vans at maximum payload or vehicles that absolutely cannot add weight. Flexible panels save 5-8kg per 100W compared to rigid + mounts.
✓ Pop-Top Roofs
Some pop-top conversions need panels that sit completely flat without any raised brackets that could interfere with the lifting mechanism.
✓ Temporary/Portable Setups
For portable panels you roll out at camp, flexible panels are lightweight and don't need rigid frames. Not glued to roof so heat isn't as much of an issue.
